Hi. I’m Stevie, a writer, journalist and researcher who works bilingually in English and Mandarin. I was raised in the rowdy laneways of Shanghai, where I received an international education.

I am currently a tutor at the University of Melbourne, where I teach several subjects under the Centre for Advancing Journalism.

Most recently, I was a digital producer at the Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s Asia-Pacific newsroom, where I produce original stories focused on the region. I also produced packages for the ABC’s nightly international news program The World.

Previously, I was an Associate Editor for the CrossCheck team at RMIT FactLab, after working at First Draft, a non-profit that supported news outlets with combating mis- and disinformation.

I also have bylines in The Age, Crikey, The China Project, Junkee, and The Citizen.

I’m passionate about humanity and story-telling, and fill my time reading and watching various forms of media. My interests fluctuate—at this moment, I’m particularly interested in media, technology, and intersections of culture and identity.

In 2019, I was an editor specialising in news at Farrago, Australia’s oldest student publication, and was a research assistant at the Australian Strategic Policy Institute.

I completed my Master of Journalism degree at the University of Melbourne’s Centre for Advancing Journalism in 2021. I also have a B.A. from the University of Melbourne with a double major in English Literature and Media and Communications.

You can find my journalism work in the “Writing” tab on the left.

I have been featured on 3CR, The China Project, and presented at UNESCO and Deakin University. My research has been featured in ABC Australia, Al Jazeera, the Reuters Institute for Journalism at Oxford University, and DoubleThink Lab.
